Eddie the Head Inspired Birthday Cake

16 Nov

This cake was made for Sophie who loves Iron Maiden, so an Eddie the Head inspired birthday cake for her eighteenth birthday seemed the obvious choice!  It was absolutely fantastic fun to make.  It is a carved madeira cake covered in sugarpaste.  I then modelled the facial features out of sugarpaste and finally painted the cake in edible colours.  It is mega colourful and suitably fitting for such a celebration.  I particularly love the effect of the sugarpaste on the board the cake is presented on.  As the World’s unofficial Slowest Cake Maker and Decorator I produced this from scratch within a 48 hour window so I was really pleased with myself.  Next I have a couple of birthday cakes on the agenda plus a growing number of Christmas cakes.

Happy Birthday Sophie!

Sweetie Wedding Cake

15 Nov

I was very proud to make my first wedding cake last week and sooo relieved that it all arrived intact for assembly at the venue after its 250 mile journey.  The brief was ‘sweets’ with both the bride and groom big Haribo fans in particular.  They were looking for something fun rather than overly traditional.  The cake is made up from 11″, 8″ and 5″ tiers in chocolate fudge flavour and accompanied by little models of the bride and groom, holding a heart Haribo and ring Haribo respectively to tie in with the overall theme.  I was really pleased with how the cake stacked and the standard of finish of the sugarpaste.  Now I’ve done three tiers, I’m looking for an opportunity to do four tiers!

Congratulations Kirsty and Gareth and all the best for your future together.
